In the last 3 years I would suggest that something has changed. France were brave enough to do their own thing and stick to their plan to place WOC in some amazing technical terrain but my personal feeling is that Norway and Switzerland have both massively compromised the terrain for political and media reasons. In Norway the long, middle and relay all ran around terrain that finished at a ski jump. This massively compromised the terrain that could be used for each race and in particular, the middle race, which is supposed to be the most technical of all three disciplines, was seriously disappointing. I ran this race and I recall thinking - "Oh, look. There is number 1 - just across this open area where the cameraman is pointing his camera". Similarly number 2 ... and number 5 ... and so on.Sarah Rollins, CompassSport V33 4/12 p.19
