Lars Palmqvist
Lars Palmqvist is a passionate former-elite-orienteer from Stockholm. He startet orienteering in 1971, won a WOC Medal with the Swedish Team in 1985 (Bronce, Mens Relay with Michael Wehlin, Kjell Lauri and Jörgen Mårtensson) and is still going strong.
His Map Collection
The particular with Lars is, that he scanned merely ALL the competition maps (2355; more than 50 p.a.) he ran since the beginning and published them in his digital orienteering maps archive (LP:s digital orienteering map archive). All? Not all. Some few he is missing and some few he is not sure when the competition was.

Lots of fine old maps
Now all these maps are also in the omaps.worldofo.com-directory, but as Lars only recently started to use a GPS-Watch, most of the maps are not georeferenced yet (this happens automatically, when combining Map and GPS in Quickroute). To make these elder maps available in terms of searchable and findable they should be located. That way they will be locally connected with the newer map versions.
I really like to run with old maps and I really like to localize maps with the few information they are provided with. I usually work with Google Earth to localize a map.
Crowdsourcing?
Okay. 2355 maps = Many many many maps... so I thought I would ask you for help. Yeah. Each number down here is linked to a collection of 10 maps out of Lars archive. Most maps are from Sweden where most from the Stockholm Area. It would be very nice you could take care for one or two sets! It takes about 15 minutes per set.
1) Choose one set from the linklist below.
2) Click to every single map of the set.
3) Georeference the center of the map.
4) Of course you can work you through several sets
5) If you are done, leave a comment on which you have done, also comment on single maps you could not localize
6) You will be credited under the name you leave your comment
Here starts the detectives fun!
