The result is a big variety of map reading patterns. Overall map reading time differs broadly (note: hand-by is also interpreted as MR). <br /><br />A test with national team runner Angela Wild http://o-zeugs.blogspot.ch/2011/05/amrd-kartentechnik-im-sprint-ein.html suggest that Top Runners are more effective than normal runners while working with short map contacts (->We use to make them to short in regard to our skills). Finding focus on the map and excerpting the the relevant information fast is a excellent base for a flowing orienteering. <br /><br />On the other hand it might be wrong to make the short contacts the main characteristics of good orienteering.
