In this discussion paper I introduce five types of map contacts in orienteering, such as affimative, detailing, visionary, retrospective and next-step-reading map contact. These types are distinguished by four properties and mostly they appear grouped as the bad-ones and the good-ones :-). I further introduce a method to visualize personal mapreading technique in general as in case of a mistake.
The whole discussion paper is founded on the concept of the visionary headstart and inspired by serveral international elite orienterers as by my work as technical coach.
